Street League turns red in support of wear red day 2022
street league is supporting the UK’s leading anti-racism education charity, Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC), to bring the country together to stand against racism this wear red day.
Street League will turn red this weekend to stand against racism. We have a long history of supporting SRTRC and Wear Red Day, and this year is no different. With Wear Red Day, this national fundraising and awareness day aims to unite the country and raise funds for anti-racism education for young people and adults, by inviting schools, businesses and individuals to donate and wear red for the day.
Organisations such as ASOS, Barclays, Morrisons, Madame Tussauds, Kickers, Legoland Windsor, The London Metal Exchange, Royal Mail, NatWest, Boots, Nestle, Morrisons, and Tesco have all committed to wear red; ‘change hearts, change minds and change lives’ in solidarity against racism on the day, creating a sea of red across the nation.
Why is this message more important than ever? Here are just a few reasons:
Race and nationality hate crimes rose by a shocking 73% in 2021. (Victim Support)
Experiences of racism have been linked to an increased likelihood of developing depression and other mental health issues (Synergi Collaborative Centre, 2018)
More than two-thirds (68%) of football fans in Britain think racism is a problem in the sport (Ipsos, 2022)
46% of Black households in the UK were in poverty, compared with just under 20% of white families. (Social Metrics Commission, 2019)

Ged Grebby, CEO of SRtRC, said: “Show Racism the Red Card organised its first ever “Wear Red Day” 8 years ago to appeal to the public to keep our anti-racism education work going. This year’s WRD is a massive show of strength for the work we do and we are proud to have the public supporting our anti-racism message. Last year’s WRD donations were used to do more in-depth work with young people and we again pledge that every penny raised will be used to combat racism through education. Thanks to all organisations throughout the UK taking part and making a stand against racism.”
Shaka Hislop, Honorary President of SRtRC, said: “Wear Red Day remains a highlight on my own calendar. It's a day when I get to witness a community coming together not otherwise seen, around the message of anti-racism. It's a day where we are reminded of our own promise to our allies and supporters to continue to work to make this a more equitable world for all."
Please join us, show support and wear red on Friday 21st October 2022.
