National Careers Week: ALFIE’S JOURNEY

For many young people, finding the right path after education isn’t always straightforward. That was the case for Alfie, who had a passion for IT but struggled to take the next step towards employment. Through Street League, he found the support he needed to move forward with confidence.

Feeling Stuck Before the Programme

After finishing school, Alfie knew he wanted to work in IT Tech Support. He had completed a specialist training course, but securing a job without the right qualifications and experience proved to be a challenge. Traditional education hadn’t worked for him, and the impact of COVID-19 made things even tougher. He needed a fresh start.

Taking the First Step

Alfie discovered Street League at a Jobs Fair in September 2024 and saw an opportunity to gain Functional Skills qualifications while receiving employability support. The programme offered him structure, a supportive environment, and the motivation to push forward.

From the start, Alfie stood out for his strong work ethic and positive attitude. When a DHL trustee visited Street League, he engaged confidently, showing his natural leadership skills. That same day, he landed an interview for a customer service role at Morrisons.

A Key Milestone

With Street League’s interview preparation, Alfie went in feeling ready - and secured the job. It was his first employment in two years, giving him the confidence and experience to take on new opportunities.

Eager to keep progressing, he also applied for a role with Constellation Group, an employer partner of Street League. Once again, his hard work paid off, and he secured a second job - kicking off his first shift at Tottenham FC, a dream workplace for a football fan!

What’s Next?

Alfie has now passed his Level 2 Maths and English with flying colours, further expanding his career prospects. He is currently gaining valuable experience in both roles, building the skills and confidence to take the next step toward his ultimate goal: a career in IT Tech Support.
